Well, some 'cat' litters are fine, though...right? Such as Yesterday's News. It's just clay/clumping types that are bad. I saw someone mention that Yesterday's News is WAY cheaper in the cat section.. IT'S TRUE! Why do they sell practically the exact same thing for double the price when it's labeled for 'rabbits' or 'small animals.' It's so annoying...they do the same thing with Swheat Scoop. _________________ -Rae & the critters. |

i did the same thing magik! go rabbit.org
i was the one talking about yesterday's news. you're right, that is okay for buns, it's the dusty, clumping kind that isn't okay. it's evil that they sell it for so much more when it's for little critters. at least we're smart and we see through the bs _________________ *moderator*

My three buns were impulse buys from a rabbit show.. the first one we ever went to.. But boy or boy have we learned alot..but still need to learn more.
I do not use any litter on the bottom of the cage. We lay a cotton rug down.. and then i use cellsorbe (sp?) in the litter box. This is what the breeder sugessted we use. It has worked great! When our buns are cool they go lay on the rug (which can be washed easly) and if they are too warm they go lay on the plain metal pan. All three are great with the litter box except a few stray poos..lol.. and i have never had a problem of them eating the cellsorb.. And the cellsorb works wonders for the smell. You can not smell any oder from the box till you dump it! We do change ours every other day! I had a friend come over who has also had rabbits and she was amazed that there was no smell. I believe that the cellsorb is very simular to the yesterdays news but i get it at the feed store for like 11 bucks for a 50lb bag.. yesterdays news in an arm and a leg for that much ...lol _________________ Kelly

Yup I also use a rug in all of my rabbit cages If I had to use litter on the bottom of every pan it would bankrupt me! _________________ ~Amy~

lol.. I do use litter on all 50 chinchilla cages and they get changed once a week.. It really isn't that expensive. I go to this feed store near me that also supplies labs. I use Kiln dried pine bedding and buy it by a huge bag of 9 qubic feet for 6 bucks.. One bag changes all 50 chin cages with a bit left over.. And my chins pan are not small either.. 24inches x 24inces x 2inches deep. When we first brought the buns home I bought a bag of carefresh but they just kicked it out every where and it got stuck all over the two long haried rabbits!! lmao.. I called the breeder back and asked for some advice .. well she almost laughed her self silly when i told her it took us hours to get the carefresh out of the two long haried rabbits fur.. She said no silly dont use any litter except in the litter box.. So that is what we do and it works great! _________________ Kelly

| I use lavender sawdust, it smells very nice but you should clean her out each week. It has a great scent and stays fresh. |
